Uses hosted Exchange 2010 offering to unlock Outlook 2010’s full productivity features
2010-07-02
Intermedia, the world's largest Microsoft Exchange hosting provider, today made Outlook 2010 – Microsoft’s newest version of the world’s popular business email client – available for download to its hosted Exchange customers and partners. The software, and upgrades to its latest version, are included free in select Intermedia hosted Exchange plans.
Hosted Exchange is necessary to power Outlook’s top collaboration features, such as calendar sharing and full wireless syncing with smartphones. Key Outlook 2010 features are only available on Exchange 2010 – the latest version. Intermedia was the first to launch hosted Exchange 2010 and remains the leading provider.
Some of the new features Outlook 2010 has over Outlook 2007 include:
- Avoid embarrassing email mistakes with MailTips (only available with hosted Exchange 2010): MailTips provides non-intrusive alert to users regarding email messages they are composing – before the message is sent. Examples include alerting users that their email includes a company-wide distribution list – or that they are not responding to the most recent message in an email thread.
- Manage time better with improved calendaring (only available with hosted Exchange 2010): Improvements in Outlook 2010 and Exchange Server 2010 logic make calendars more useful than in Office Outlook 2007. Improvements include conflict resolution in online mode to resolve conflicts when there are different updated versions of an item on the server and on the client. Also, multiple instances of a recurring meeting can now be changed independently of one another.
- Use conversation view and "mute button": Messages are grouped by conversation topic in this view. Users can click on a drop down arrow to see all the messages in the conversation – with the newest on top. Users can also manage their participation with a “mute button” feature to remove themselves from an email thread.
- Customize the familiar Microsoft “ribbon”: The menus and toolbars of the Outlook main window are replaced with the familiar "ribbon" used in other Microsoft applications like Word. Ribbon tabs can be customized or replaced.
Companies that use Intermedia's hosted instant messaging service – Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 – will also benefit from integration to Outlook 2010. Users can view their colleague’s free/busy status right from Outlook and initiate chat or video sessions.
