Company promotes 20 plus year IT security veteran Richard Walters to drive product innovation
Mountain View, Calif. – February 25, 2016—Intermedia, a one-stop shop for cloud IT services, announced today the creation of a new division focused on cloud and mobile security products for its Office in the Cloud™ suite. Richard Walters, an expert in IT security, has been named Senior Vice President of Intermedia’s new Security Products division, and will be leading this significant initiative.
“Intermedia has invested significantly in a broad range of different cloud-based service offerings delivered via 11 global datacenters. Security is inherent in everything that we do, including anti-virus, anti-spam, encryption, identity management, and more,” said Michael Gold, CEO at Intermedia. “With Richard at the helm, we will be consolidating all of these security investments under a completely new division where we can focus on offering our partners and customers innovative cloud security products. New sophisticated security threats require this focus and expertise.”
Intermedia is positioned to capture growing security market
To deliver its robust security products portfolio, Intermedia has built, licensed, and acquired a unique combination of world-class products. In his new role, Walters will spearhead Intermedia’s product development efforts across all areas of information security. Within this position, Walters will lead and grow Intermedia’s security products team of experts, setting the standards bar across all security-related Office in the Cloud offerings, including Identity as a Service (IDaaS), email security, web security, threat protection, encryption, business continuity and more. Walters will also be driving forward Intermedia’s continued innovation and investment in new product areas.
Walters has 20 plus years of experience in IT, with over 15 years in C-level positions focused on information security. Previously, Walters was Intermedia’s Vice President & General Manager of Identity and Access Management (IAM), where he led strategy for the company’s flagship IAM solution, Intermedia AppID®, in addition to managing EMEA operations. Prior to joining Intermedia, Walters served as the CTO and co-founder of IAM company, SaaSID Limited, which Intermedia acquired in 2013.
“We are seeing new cyber threats emerge every day that target users, systems and applications in intelligent new ways. Just look at the destruction the new crypto-ransomware variant Locky has already caused,” said Richard Walters, SVP of Security Products at Intermedia. “We pride ourselves on offering a suite of world-class technologies, whether we built them in-house from the ground up or they’re licensed with the mission of protecting information assets. I am extremely passionate about the roadmap we have in development for the months and years ahead.”
Intermedia’s cloud security investments also come at a time of significant industry growth.
"Malware and other forms of intrusion continue to represent a huge liability for all organizations. Increasing adoption of mobile devices has also significantly complicated the protection requirements of organizations of all sizes,” said Sara Radicati, President & CEO at Radacati Group. "Protection against all forms of attacks continues to be the main driver for the adoption of Endpoint Security solutions. As organizations continue to upgrade their security from basic, consumer-grade features to premium, business-grade solutions, we expect to see greater business Endpoint Security adoption. We forecast that worldwide revenues will increase at an average growth rate of over 7 percent annually, reaching more than $5.7 billion in 2019."
