The Challenge

NMGI was proficient at delivering Microsoft Exchange to their clients. They established a solid business practice of installing and supporting Exchange servers and managed service programs for their clients. NMGI was quick to realize that the accounting market (their niche vertical market) was starting to identify the emerging cloud as having real potential to reduce costs, increase efficiency and address mobility issues for their businesses. “We considered hosting our own Exchange servers in order to provide cloud solutions to our customer base, but after a couple of false starts we realized partnering was the right thing to do – not only for our customers, but also for us and our business model,” says Steve Harper, president, NMGI.

It was clear to Harper and his team that the investment in infrastructure and on-going management of a highly-reliable Exchange Email platform would require more staff and financial resources than was practical. In order to deliver the levels of service NMGI customers were accustomed to, partnering with a market leader in cloud services appeared to be the best solution. NMGI decided to stick to what they do best –consulting and managed services – and to get someone else to handle the rest.

NMGI set out to find the right partner. When it comes to partnerships, NMGI has always been very selective when determining the right vendor to work with. “Picking the right partners has been an important part of our success,” says Harper. “Moving into the cloud services market was an important step and we needed the right partner.”

The Solution

After learning that Intermedia’s Private Label model includes 24x7x365 expert support behind the scenes along with robust branding capabilities and white label resources, Intermedia quickly moved to the lead in the selection process. “Having a partner that offered true private label was a fit for our business model,” says Doug Elliott, general manager of the business. “But we also had to meet the requirements of the accounting market and needed to be able to offer a specific set of solutions, including archiving and policy-based encryption. Intermedia delivered for us across the board.”

Ultimately, it came down to service levels and personal relationships. Intermedia leads the market with a 99.999% financially backed service level agreement and top notch sales support and technical support. “The quality Intermedia delivers is without question,” Harper commented. “But knowing my team has the sales and technical support they need, and I have personal relationships with, and access to, Intermedia’s executive team is what partnering is really all about.”

The Results

NMGI’s cloud services business, particularly Exchange Email, is growing at a steady rate since partnering with Intermedia in July of 2011. NMGI is really looking to expand their reach in the cloud service market by leveraging other Intermedia services including Backup, Lync, SharePoint, VoIP phone services and more.

NMGI is focused on business IT services. They work hard to understand the client’s business first and design customized solutions to improve productivity, efficiency and profitability in a secure environment. “Intermedia helps us do what we do better,” says Elliott. “Our focus on managed services fits perfectly with their focus on a managed cloud.
