Exchange Email, On-premises environments, Other providers
Happy Birthday, Exchange!
Microsoft Exchange turns 20 this year! As I think about what I was doing 20 years ago and how much technology has changed in the past two decades, I am reminded of how robust Exchange really is and why it’s still the #1 choice for business email.
Sure other email services have come and gone, but Exchange just keeps getting better and better. And the business world recognizes this strength and reliability.
Tony Redmond of Tony Redmond’s Exchange Unwashed Blog wrote a recent post about the 20 year history of Exchange and those early days in 1996. He closes with this prophecy:
“How long more will Exchange last? Probably as long as email lasts, at least in its current form. Hundreds of millions of people use on-premises and cloud versions of the product today. I can’t see that changing in the short term.”
As the world’s largest independent provider of Exchange, with over 900,000 cloud mailboxes, we heartily agree with Redmond’s predictions. We don’t see email going anywhere any time soon. It’s such a key component of business communications, and such a vital record of activity and IP.
Think about all of the communication media that have come along since email — instant messaging, video chat, social media. Every time something new came along, people claimed that it would “kill off email”. But that never happened. Email is just as important to businesses today as it ever was, even with these other communication options. The only big change to email that companies make now is moving from on-prem to the cloud.
And that’s a move that I highly recommend, if you haven’t made it already.
Get your email from a trusted cloud provider
Given it’s importance to business, you don’t want to get email from just any cloud provider. Make sure you find a provider with a proven track record. At Intermedia, we started hosting Exchange in the cloud since it was first available as a cloud service and we’ve been the first provider to offer each new Exchange release since 2000.
And make sure your business meets The New Standard for Business Email–an essential combination of cloud email and tamper-proof email archiving. Learn more about how to meet the requirements of the New Standard and see how other providers, like Office 365, stack up in our new report.
What’s more, we go beyond just providing cloud IT services by giving you a Worry-Free Experience™ — that means 24/7 phone and chat support by Microsoft-certified experts, free onboarding and migration by our Cloud Concierge™ team, enterprise-grade security, and a 99.999% uptime SLA.
