Co-editing SecuriSync® files with Office Online – the future of collaboration is now
Who do you collaborate on files with? If you’re like me, you collaborate with team members, senior managers, cross-functional teams, and even business partners and vendors. And you may also be like me in that everyone has their own way of editing documents, some of which are pretty inefficient.
The good news is that there is new technology that helps streamline and improve the way that multiple collaborators work on files called “co-editing.” Enabled by online versions of productivity software, like the Office Online feature of Office 365®, co-editing offers many time-saving benefits for collaborative work teams. Let’s look at a few:
No more waiting
If you use any type of collaboration service, you’ve probably confronted the “waiting for someone to finish editing” situation. A file is locked and you have stand by before making your edits. If you’re in a hurry or juggling multiple projects at once, waiting to edit a file can seriously slow you down. And if you don’t use a file collaboration service, you’re probably passing versions of files back and forth via email, or spending time merging comments from multiple collaborators, neither of which are very efficient. With co-editing, multiple people can edit the file at the same time, without creating conflict copies or overwrites.
Changes happen in real-time
When multiple people are working on a file, it can sometimes be hard to tell what edits were made. Only Word offers a “Track Changes” feature, and even that can be difficult to manage when many different people are editing. Neither Excel nor PowerPoint offers a way to track changes in-line. With co-editing, which works with the online versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, you can view the changes being made in real-time, as they’re being made. Each change is tagged with the collaborator’s name, providing a visual reference.
Comments and changes together in one place
Another frequent frustration of collaboration is that feedback is sometimes provided in an email or document separate from the file being edited. Going back and forth between edits and the document can be time-consuming and could lead to not including critical feedback. With co-editing and Office Online, changes and comments are stored together in one place. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint all provide easy-to-use, intuitive comments functionality.
